The Ideal Landscape

The Green Dragon hills to the East represent the central requirement of ‘Good Landscape’.

The White Tiger hills to the West should merge with the Green Dragon hills to create ‘Auspicious Qi’.

The Red Phoenix landscape to the South should be an open space that is low-lying and flat, signifying a life of ‘Ease’ and ‘Luxury’.

The Black Tortoise & Snake range of hills to the North gives ‘Support’ and ‘Protection’.

Green Dragon and White Tiger
青龙与白虎
The Dragon symbolises ‘Yang’ and represents ‘Power’.
龙象征‘阳’并且代表‘权力’。
The Tiger symbolises ‘Yin’ and represents ‘Negative Qualities’.
老虎象征‘阴’并且代表‘阴性’或‘负质量’。
Look out of your Main Door. If the house on your left is higher than the house on your right, it means the Dragon is controlling the Tiger. This is ‘Auspicious’.
从你家大门往外看。 如果你家左边的房子高于你家的右边的房子，意味龙剋制虎。 这是‘吉利的’。
On the other hand, if the house on your right is higher than the house on your left, it is regarded as ‘Inauspicious’, for the Dragon is suppressed by the Tiger.

Red Phoenix and Black Tortoise & Snake
朱雀与玄武
The Red Phoenix refers to the front of the house, which should be an open space to symbolise ‘Wealth’.
朱雀是房子的门前，应该是低和宽阔的一个场地，因为它象征‘财富’。
The Black Tortoise & Snake refers to the back of the house. It should have a strong support to symbolise ‘Stability’ and ‘Strength’.
玄武是房子后面，它象征‘稳固’与‘力量’。
The Main Door should not be blocked, and should preferably face an open ground. It is good if the front of the house faces a pool of water, a gentle slope or a playground.
大门不应该有东西阻拦，并且应该面对低和宽阔的一个场地。 如果房子的前面，面对池水、一个平缓坡或者操场，都是好。
This open ground, representing ‘Water’, should be lower than the house.
这宽阔的场地，代表‘水’，所以必须低过房子。
The back of the house, symbolising ‘Support’, should be higher than the house.

Tall buildings can substitute for mountains and can give ‘Good Support’ to the house.

A solid rear boundary wall is also acceptable as ‘Support’.

Hedges and trees behind the house can act as ‘Support’ if the branches are not overgrown.

Water Dragon

‘Feng Shui’ suggests that a house should be backed by a mountain, with the front facing a pond, stream or river.
‘风水’建议房子后面应该由一座山来‘支柱’，而前面向池塘、小溪或者河流。
This body of water in front of your house is referred to as a Water Dragon.
房子前面的水(池塘、小溪或者河流)，指的就是‘水龙’。
The water responsible for attracting and accumulating quality ‘Qi’.
这水的用意是来吸引和积累好质量的‘气’。
An artificial waterway or drain can be utilised as a Water Dragon in place of a pond, stream or river.
人造水道或水渠都能代替天然池塘、小溪或者河流而作为‘水龙’。
